Get to know Dr. Ritchie.

Dr. Ritchie is a DC-based licensed clinical psychologist working with patients from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. He has extensive experience in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Dr. Ritchie specializes in helping patients manage difficult emotions and personal dynamics in high-pressure work and academic environments, parenting and co-parenting relationships, and major life transitions such as the process of adjusting to divorce.

Dr. Ritchie practices relational psychodynamic therapy, a collaborative approach that contributes to emotional well-being by understanding the influence of past and present relationships. This individualized approach helps you identify patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and interpersonal connections. Exploring your experiences in this way often leads to a better understanding of yourself, informing new strategies for managing your symptoms and struggles.

With couples, Dr. Ritchie draws on techniques from emotion-focused therapy. This format is designed to help you and your partner communicate in ways that promote emotional safety, so that you can feel more open, connected, and understood in your relationship.

Although Dr. Ritchie has much experience working with children, his current approach is to work with parents and caregivers. Combining parenting techniques with individualized therapy, Dr. Ritchie helps adults manage difficult behavior in their children, set boundaries and communicate clearly, and address broad and sometimes multi-generational issues that can impact the emotional health of an entire family.

Whether you are seeking treatment as an individual or a couple, Dr. Ritchie will provide support as you gain insight about yourself, and help you feel empowered to improve the quality of your daily life.

Dr. Ritchie earned a master’s degree in developmental psychology from Columbia University, where he studied how childhood experiences impact social and emotional functioning across the lifespan. He later completed his doctoral training in clinical psychology at Long Island University, a program dedicated to ethical, evidence-based, and culturally-informed approaches to therapy.
